minecraft crashing whenever trying to load onto it

whenever i load up the new minecraft launcher i press play on my selected version usuallly 1.12.2 or latest release and it will load on but then freeze on the mojang screen not responding.then telling me to end process it closes both the launcher and the game. on occasion after 3 or so trys it will infact open the game but freeze when i load on to a server or a world on the loading screen or halfway into to displaying the world and i will therefore have to close it as it does not unfreeze.
