Command Possible but Game Says "Cant Modify"

So, i tried to Copy my Position in my SelectedItem
and it told me :
"Unable to Modify player data"
But it Actually copied it in the Item

data modify entity @s SelectedItem.tag.storedPos append from entity @s Pos
