Launcher never loads past white Mojang screen

The Launcher loads with ease, I am able to do everything within the launcher but as soon as I hit play, it sends me to the white Mojang screen with the red bar at the bottom. The bar reaches about 8/10 of the way before it stops and goes no further. I have tried waiting it out for almost an hour before I had to force close it through task manager because it stopped responding
