Ittems dissappearing right next to me

[SINGLEPLAYER] A creeper blew up my storage and I was tidying it up when after some time everything dissapeared right next to me. I understand ittems have to be despawned so there were less lags but but I always thought they despawn when they are somewhere far away from the player. I don't know if you count it as a bug but I suggest making ittems remain on the ground a bit longer please.
