Game rolls back a few seconds every so often

Every so often when playing, the game will randomly freeze and roll back a couple of seconds. Some of the time it moves me but it also sometimes just rolls back the blocks around me. It does this more when I use tools with efficiency, but it also happens when I'm not updating blocks. When it freezes I can still move, but i can't open chests or any other other block. Also when everything freezes items that i drop don't appear on the ground but disappear from my inventory. They later appear on the ground or back in my inventory after the game unfreezes. I don't know how you would reproduce this because it seem to happen at random, but try mining with a pickaxe that has a high efficiency.
