can still craft horse armor

when I started my minecraft world I did the wood collecting and other stuff when I got iron ingots then when I put the ingots in a j shape to make horse armor and put wool in It didn't work
then I started spaming the wool in the middle and on the seventh
time I got horse armor! I checked the fourms and it said removed
crafting recipe for horse armor I tried it again didn't work
then I tried it in 13w19a it happened again then I tries again didn't work I think it is weird please try fixing it
