Chests despawned in survival and are invisible in creative

All Chests despawned in survival world I host on a local area network. This issue happened upon opening the single player world. Chests are invisible but can be opened and have a hitbox after being placed in creative. Old chests have no hit box an cannot be opened I assume they have despawned.
