mobs are invisible

I got onto my world and in the loading screen i got a black and purple checking board screen so i quit my game and sense then i have invisible mobs and no game sound. When i go to see the default texture pack its black and purple and i cant fix it. i tried going to different textures and going back to the default one and its still broke. please help!!
