Armour bar disappears after entering different dimension.

After travelling through a Nether portal, I noticed that my armour bar doesn't appear until I take damage from mobs.

 

One of the screenshots provided shows before and after I was shot by a ghast, although I do not have proof, I did attempt taking damage by falling, but the bar didn't appear.
