When using a observer and piston it causes lag

What I expected to happen was...:
the observer would work

What actually happened was...:
it dropped me down to 30 fps

Steps to Reproduce:
1. you put an observer above a piston
2. put redstone behind the observer
3. and then update the block infront of the observer and it will lag your game.
