Obsidian disappears and nether portal animation stays on

Played a map from 1.5.2 in 13w18c. When trying to destroy a nether portal with a pickaxe (Silk touch enchanted / Diamond pickaxe) the block is removed but the obsidian disappears and the portal stays on (though it will not transport the player even after the animation. The animation continues)
