Entering the End for the first time.

I just opened the End Portal on my vanilla game 14.1 on a Windows 10 computer.  When I spawned in the end I was close to the center island however my starting area was not attached to the island I was 50 or so blocks away from the island without a way of reaching the island and left for dead.  The spawn area was not where it was supposed to be!
