Can't pick up my fallen items after I fell from a high place.

A creeper blew up and knocked me off a high place and I fell. I went back to pick up my items and experience and the game wouldn't allow me to pick anything up. I had enchanted diamond armor, sword, and pick axes. I also had an enchanted bow. Along with my tools i had a bunch of iron, gold, and diamonds that i mined. This is very frustrating.
