Boat Entity Despawns While Loading New Chunks

On two separate occasions my boat has disappeared, leaving no item behind, while I am traveling in it. Not entirely sure what the cause is, possibly lag due to exploring new chunks. (This may be related to, or even a duplicate of, ~~MC-2931~~.)
