Villager Purchasing Bug - Eating Up Emeralds, No Item in Retun

While I had the Hero of the Village buff, I attempted to purchase 3 mending books in rapid succession - I had over 40 emeralds to use. On the third purchase, he took emeralds but I did not receive a third mending book.
