Items disappearing after putting them in a chest and barrel

Basically, I put my 4 eyes of ender and 1 ender pearl into a barrel, I then put my enchanted diamond gear into my chest.

Diamond gear included:
Diamond Pickaxe - silk touch, efficiency 4, unbreaking 3 and mending
Diamond Axe - Efficiency 2, unbreaking 2
Diamond Shovel - Efficiency 2, Unbreaking 2

I then went to the nether to kill some blazes, I did not die, I was in the nether for around 10 minutes give or take.

I came back home, went to retrieve the tools from my chest, they had disappeared, I checked the barrel I had put the eyes of ender and the enderpearl in, they were missing too.

I put these items in their respective containers within 30 seconds of eachother- everything else in my storage was untouched apart from the items I had previously put in.
