Lag Spike

Whenever I place or break a block, a small but notifiable lag spike happens. For about a quarter of a second my fps drops to 15 then goes back to normal. I have tried restarting and have dedicated 5 GB of ram to Minecraft. I haven't tested this glitch out on any other version except for the "current" one. Please Help!
