After Dying to Skeleton Arrow, Items Were Visible But Unobtainable

After a player on our realm had died to a skeleton, their items were dropped as normal but they could not be picked up. Other players came by to try to help, but the items could still not be picked up. We tried to funnel the items into a Hopper but the Hopper did not pick the items up, either. They eventually despawned.
