Creepers (and I think mobs) can't go over railways

I was mining in a mineshaft, and of course, there were railways, and the creepers couldn't get close to me whenever and wherever there was a railway between the two, they just like stood there, as if there were barrier blocks where the railways were, and the creeper couldn't walk towards me.
