When falling in the Nether you can log out and log back in and receive no fall damage

Receive no fall damage when logging out then in.

I expected to die or take some damage.

There was nothing that happened.

1) Find a drop that you know will kill you.
2) Jump off
3) Right before you hit the ground log out and log back in
4) No damage
