My friend alone on a recently updated server to 1.14 won't let him sleep in a bed fully but it will let him in the bed.

My friend had a 1.13.2 minecraft server then updated it to 1.14 today and as he loaded a completely knew map he tried to sleep in a bed while he was by himself on the server and it would let him in the bed but it wouldn't let him sleep and it wouldn't turn day.
