Player sneaking / crouching animation is not shown when flying down in creative and spectator mode

The bug

I recently discovered that when you crouch to go down in creative, it won't do it's crouching animation.

If you press spacebar 2 times to drop down faster, then you will see the player will crouch.

Crouching itself works normally as it should, but this only happens in creative and spectator mode.
