Sheep dye

I was playing the new pre-release and I went to dye some light gray sheep that I had captured.  Clicking on them with some bone meal, the sheep stayed that same light grey. I tried again, but to no avail.  But somehow, another dye I tried did work. I'm not exactly sure about the mechanics of it, but I think it might have to do with how bone meal grows stuff.
