Could not sprint fly in spectator mode while inside blocks

What I expected to happen was...:
sprint fly under ground

What actually happened was...:
I could only slowly fly

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Switch from creative to spectator mode using F3+N
2. Sprint fly towards ground
