Hearts dont appear when breeding animals (chickens)

I was going to breed some chickens. I held seeds, they all followed me. I right clicked on some, but no hearts appeared. They still bred normally, making baby chickens and xp, just without hearts over their heads. *EDIT Actually, rain sounds aren't playing, and villager 'particles' aren't showing up.
