When mining blocks with a diamond sword they break like using a diamond pick/axe/shovel

I was messing around in a village and broke a bed with a sword in my hand. I noticed it broke far too quickly and tested on other blocks to find that they also mine very quickly, though cobblestone & stone don't drop anything; wood and other blocks drop themselves.
