The game will not open (but the launcher will)

So I recently downloaded Minecraft again, and to my surprise there was a new launcher. I put in my username and password and pressed "Log in" and the little green button highlights and does nothing else, I am able to click other button, like the create new account", "forgot password" and "which do I use" buttons, but the "log in" button never works
