When lead breaks by running over 5 blocks, the attachment doesn't break

When you attach a lead to a horse then to a post, then you run away from it, the lead breaks but the attachment doesn't.

What I was expecting to happen was:
The attachment would brake.

What actually happen was:
It didn't.
