Dolphins Dying?

I put four dolphins in a large enclosure with fish and underwater plants. They were named, and were seen jumping out of the water for air several times. I have a 3 block high wall around the uncovered tank, which is 6 blocks deep of water, plus the three of air. They still despawned, 3 times.
