Villager trading issues

Seeing as these screenshots focus on villagers, I've been having fun exploring villages and trading with the newly dressed villagers. However, when I make a trade, sometimes the trade doesn't go through correctly, where I'll get the item I'm trading for but (for example) not lose any emeralds for it.  And after a trade goes through successfully. most of the time I won't get new trades available from that villager.
