Older versions of Minecraft won't start, and will only crash.

I want to start a survival world in an old version of Minecraft (1.4.4, to be exact). I tried to load it up, and it just crashed. I tried with several other versions but it kept on crashing. After that, I searched all over the internet for a solution, but found nothing. I turned on the game output. It said, "Version does not support log configuration, will assume one plaintext entry per line."

Is there any way to fix this?
Or am I just doing something wrong..?

Also, this does not affect 1.13 at all I just had to put it there to post this.
