Riding Minecarts around corners causes a black screen

I have a minecart track in a square over an ocean biome to spawn drowned zombies. When the cart goes around a corner, the screen goes black and all I can see is a little bit of whatever I'm holding in my hand and off hand. Originally it would stay black until I hit another corner, now it only seems to turn black for a short second.
