Horse Jumping Suffocates You

I was in a cave, but randomly taking damage, when I realized jumping while on a horse with a solid block above your head suffocates you. I tried this multiple times and every time it suffocated me. The horse had diamond armor on so I am not sure if it took damage, but I don't think it did.
