In Crafting mine has 2 Cobblestone slabs, one works the other doesn't

I'm in the crafting table, trying to create Cobblestone slab and Cobblestone fence.  There are 2 icons to create the slab.  One will create the slab, the other won't. These appears to exist for Walls and Stairs too.  It also looks to exist for sandstone. In the attached screenshot you can see the stairs with no output for the crafting.  If I go to page 2 and select those stairs, you see it creates the crafting properly.
