Floating item frames and lead ropes that I can't get rid of

I logged into my Minecraft world and discovered item frames and lead ropes floating about 5-50 blocks away from where I originally placed them. I found that the only way to get rid of them was to destroy the block it was originally on, which is very annoying to find where each item frame and lead belong.
