Invisible Skeletons after death

After being killed by a skeleton on survival mode, i returned to the spot where i died and the skeleton was no where in sight. I was then shot multiple times, seeing the arrows appear out of thin air as the skeleton killed me. I returned there again and the skeleton was visible again. This happened again and as far as i know works every time. Have not tested it with other mobs.
