Serious Dedication advancement not working

I used an entire diamond hoe on some nearby plains, and when it broke I didn't get the achievement. Is it possible that it's because I used it a few times to attack, because I went over the same area multiple times, or is it a bug? No screencaps, sorry, unless you want my advancements page where it isn't filled in
