bows not working well

every time I fire a bow the arrow stoppeedmid air

What I expected to happen was...:
the arrow to fly, and hit what I had aimed at, the cave spider, and I could do it multiple times untill the spider died.

What actually happened was...:

the arrow stopped mid air, 2 to 3 blocks away, and stuck there, as if against a block, untill I picked it up, this happened no matter how many times I tried, also the cave spider killed me

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go underground (I highly doubt that is important) 
2. pull back a bow, with arrow
3. shoot the bow
