Something I discovered in a Cave

So I was exploring a cave, like normal, and I had just found 8 diamonds! Anyways, that's not the point, there were lava lakes, and I saw lava coming from a block, naturally. There was the spring block for the lava, and a second lava 'block.' I expected it to continue to flow and spread everywhere. but it just stayed there, floating.
