Invisible untargetable mobs

randomly when joining a server, some mobs are invisible and untargetable, but they can damage me/shoot arrows at me. It doesn’t happen to all mobs, and my friend can see some while I can’t, and same problem the other way around. I can hear the mobs and see arrows being shot but I don’t see mob shadows or anyway to damage them
