Bamboo growing in the wrong place

the bamboo is growing in the wrong place ( few blocks away instead of the top of the plant )

What I expected to happen was...:
the bamboo growing on top of the hand placed bamboo plants

What actually happened was...:
the bamboo was growing few blocks away from the plants
