Sometimes when I die, the mobs and my items disapear from view

 When I die (either near spawn or away,) my items cannot be seen on the ground (you have to walk around to find them.) Also the mobs disappear, they are still there, I can hear them, but cannot hit them. If I exit the world and rejoin, they are still invisible.
