Pillagers became invisible after dying

So, I died fighting the Pillagers to see how tough they are (I had full diamond armor, a diamond sword and a shield, so pretty tough). I had my spawn point set in the village and right away noticed were the Pillagers were, was nothing, but arrows fired from their cross bows still shot at me. I tried to hit them, but I'm not sure if I could or not because I didn't here any noise come from them, but a saddle dropped, probably form the Illager beast, but IDK. I ended up dying again and still no Pillagers showed up and yet arrows kept being shot at me.
