Low Fps

When I load up a minecraft world (wether it be old or new) my fps is way lower than it should be, even on low graphics like smooth lighting. A comment I saw on reddit said that they were having a much higher framerate than they did in 1.5.1 but I know for sure it's not my mac. I know this is may be a bug in the OSX version and I am reporting it here.
