Sword enchantments work for crossbows

I was messing around with the crossbow/bow and tried to put flame on it but instead I grab the fire aspect enchantment and put it on the crossbow/bow and my crossbow/bow when I attack mobs with it when I hit the mobs with the crossbow/bow not with arrows
