Minecraft wont load past Mojang Screen

I open the minecraft launcher and it is set to latest release 1.13.1. I click play and it looks like it is working. The mojang screen pops up and never goes away. It then says not responding with that little box asking to close the program or wait for it to respond. I have waited up to 10 minutes for it to load. What do i do?
