Game freezes when paused or clicking a chest but server continues in background

So the game screen freezes where I cannot select anything whenever the pause screen comes up. It just recently happened as well as when I selected a chest and I looked at the contents. I'm on a server however as well and the background continues as normal. I just cannot click out of the pause or chest inventory screen.
