Carved Pumpkin Cannot Be Combined With Enchants

On the Wikipedia it states that Carved Pumpkins can be combined using anvils with the following enchants:

 

-> Curse of Vanishing

-> Curse of Binding

Though you can do this with a regular pumpkin, upon carving it (placing it on the ground), the enchant disappears. Appears pointless to place on a normal pumpkin.
