on death chunk not loading and can not change gamemode

I was exploring in spectator, I was a fair way from spawn, I then did the /kill @a, to get back to spawn, the chunks were doing some funny things, and I could not change my gamemode or open chests, I could build and place blocks, when I reloaded I land were i started before the /kill
