Breaking a log which is connected to leaves on a tree causes a lag spike

When I try breaking a log which is connected to leaves since 1.13 pre release 1 there has been a very distracting lag spike. To make sure this problem wasn't just isolated to me, I have gotten my friend to try it as well with a completely different setup and managed to create the same problem.
